KILL WITH KINDNESS was a group show of London-based artists featuring paintings, ceramics, textiles and sculptures that explored a gentle nature from animals, mystical creatures, monsters and demons. While depicting elements of softness, the work touched on themes of folklore, superstition and embodying animals as a representative of emotions. The exhibition was inspired by the title of Phoenix Fry’s community-led project for Deptford X in 2019, A Parade of Friendly Monsters. The exhibition was part of the Fringe of Deptford X 2023 as we celebrated the festival’s 25th anniversary. Deptford X is a showcase for the incredible diversity and breadth of artistic practice in the area with a festival fringe of local artists’ projects including gallery exhibitions and open studios. The festival makes use of existing local infrastructure to host projects, with art to be found in both everyday and unexpected places throughout the area.
